Abstract

SMP IT BMM is a tuition-free school aimed at students from financially challenged families. A community in Japan has shown interest in this school and offers a scholarship for visits to Japan to its students. The main challenge lies in the students' lack of knowledge about Japan and their complete inability to speak Japanese. The Community Engagement Program is expected to help address these issues. The program activities encompass teaching the Hiragana and Katakana scripts, training in proper gestures for greetings, and introducing Japanese culture and lifestyle. Alongside teaching sessions, the program also provides learning materials such as posters and Hiragana-Katakana flashcards. It is hoped that through this program, students can secure scholarships for visits to Japan and, upon visiting, they will already possess basic knowledge of the Japanese language and culture.
