PENILAIAN SUMBER DAYA DAN PERINGKAT BATUBARA DI DAERAH GUNUNG TABUR
Abstract
Penelitian ini mengkaji potensi sumber daya batubara di wilayah Gunung Tabur, Kabupaten Berau, Kalimantan Timur, yang termasuk dalam Cekungan Tarakan. Fokus utama penelitian adalah untuk memperkirakan jumlah sumber daya, menilai mutu batubara, serta mengevaluasi potensi ekonominya di area tersebut. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa Gunung Tabur memiliki sumber daya batubara yang cukup besar, estimasi sumber daya batubara daerah penelitian yaitu 1.468.505,35, dengan lapisan batubara yang tersebar di formasi Domaring dan Sajau. Analisis sampel batubara mengindikasikan total moisture rata-rata sebesar 44.84% (arb), kadar abu rata-rata 9.54% (adb), kandungan rata-rata volatile matter yang tinggi (41.59% adb), kandungan karbon rendah sampai sedang (36.69% adb), dan total sulfur rata-rata sebesar 2.45% (adb). Nilai kalori batubara sebesar 5294.72 cal/gr (adb) secara umum berada pada kategori lignit hingga batas bawah sub-bituminus, cukup baik untuk keperluan industri energi. Batubara lignit daerah penelitian ini sesuai bila digunakan untuk pembangkit listrik tenaga uap lokal dan aplikasi industri yang tidak memerlukan nilai kalor tinggi. Potensi ekonomi dari endapan batubara di Gunung Tabur dengan cadangan yang besar dan kualitas batubara yang memadai, memiliki peluang dikembangkan sebagai sumber energi yang dapat mendukung kebutuhan lokal maupun nasional.

ABSTRACT
This study examines the potential coal resources in the Gunung Tabur area, Berau Regency, East Kalimantan, which is part of the Tarakan Basin. The primary objective of this study is to estimate the quantity of coal resources, evaluate the coal quality, and assess the economic potential in the area. The research results indicate that Gunung Tabur has a considerable coal resources, with an estimated resource amounting to 1,468,505.35 tons, distributed across the Domaring and Sajau formations. Analysis of coal samples revealed an average total moisture content of 44.84% (arb), an average ash content of 9.54% (adb), a high volatile matter content of 41.59% (adb), a low to medium carbon content of 36.69% (adb), and an average total sulfur content of 2.45% (adb). The coal’s calorific value is recorded at 5294.72 calories per gram (adb), generally falling within the lignite to lower sub-bituminous category, making it suitable for energy industry purposes. The lignite coal in this area is appropriate for use in local steam power plants and industrial applications that do not require high calorific value. With its large reserves and adequate coal quality, the economic potential of the coal deposits in Gunung Tabur offers opportunities for development as an energy source to support both local and national needs.
