Abstract

ABSTRACT

Humans have different skin colors due to different amounts of melanin. The process of melanin formation occurs due to a number of enzymes, hormones, oxygen, minerals, and ultraviolet light. Excess amount of melanin can cause hyperpigmentation which can impair the appearance of the skin. Using synthetic leather brighteners can harm your skin. Research on skin lightening ingredients from nature continued because of the side effects of chemicals that are harmful to the skin. Strawberry fruit is an antioxidant. This study tried to test the activity of sunscreens and tyrosinase inhibitors in vitro from ethanol extracts of fresh strawberries. Research shows that ethanol extracts of strawberries contain secondary metabolites of flavonoids, phenolic compounds, and saponins. In the extract concentration of 1 mg/ml obtained a total phenolic compound of 1755 mg GAE/100 g extract and antioxidant capacity of 6.23%. SPF value of strawberry extract of more than 15 found at a concentration of 0.6 mg/ml extract was 26.853. The tyrosinase enzyme inhibitory activity of ethanol extract of strawberries obtained IC50 values of 662.096 μg/ml. Ethanol extract of strawberry fruit has the potential as a sunscreen and tyrosinase inhibitor.
